“I don’t like wearing makeup because I don’t like the way foundation feels on my skin....”

“I want a ‘barely there polished but natural’ look without looking powdery or caked in makeup...”

I hear these and similar statements a lot!

Choosing the right make-up artist is just as important as finding a great outfit, hairdresser, floral arranger or photographer!

Many women tell me about how nervous they were generally about hiring a makeup artist before an event; either due to previous bad experiences or the fear of looking overly made up or washed out. Trials are therefore essential for your own peace of mind before a big event to ensure you can relax before your special day and ideally, they should take place several weeks or months beforehand.

WHY DO A TRIAL?  Well…..many reasons but the BIG 5 are as follows:

1.      It’s your opportunity to establish if you like the Makeup Artist and their style of makeup. Don’t chance it for such a big event! Naturally, you want to be confident and looking your most fabulous; imagine the horror of not trying out a makeup artist before such an important event and the final result has you caked in foundation, powdery looking skin, solid black eyebrows, orange skin or thick eyeliner….assuming that is not the look you were after…(I’ve heard some horror stories)!

2.     It’s your chance to test or play with various products, formulas and colours across a multitude of brands in advance of your big day. The joy of doing a trial with a freelance makeup artist is that you can test products from different brands without being forced to buy anything at the end of it like in a department store. Together, we achieve the look that best suits you to guarantee that you are happy, confident and beaming ahead of your big day and a look that will last the course and hold well through tears, dancing, heat or rain!

3.      You need to feel confident ahead of your event that your makeup artist knows what products to avoid and knows which products photograph the best. You don’t want any ‘flashback’ that can whiten you out or create ‘panda eyes’ in photos if the incorrect makeup products are used. A good makeup artist will know what products to use and what NOT to use for flash photography.

4.    Looking and feeling your best for a big event, is largely down to perfecting the appearance of your skin. Creating the illusion of perfect skin takes time to perfect. At a trial, I take the time to establish your skin’s bespoke requirements, establishing which are the best product formulas for your skin and thereby saving precious time on the day itself. You can then leave the trial feeling relaxed and excited in the full knowledge that you will look your most beautiful, you won’t feel rushed or look less than perfect on the day itself!

5. Following your trial and confirmation of booking me for your event, I send you a list of the products we selected at your trial, giving you the chance to purchase any items in advance of your event.

HOW I WORK:

I am a perfectionist and I love creating bespoke looks for my clients whether they want vintage, natural, avant garde or classically timeless

I strive to always create your vision and to follow your brief

My clients have total control over the makeup application process

This is a collaboration between you and me

  1. At your trial, I give you a mirror to hold and I walk you through each step of the application ensuring you are completely happy before proceeding through each stage.

  2. We work together in partnership and collaborate together to achieve your desired look. I listen to your brief and consult with you in depth in advance so that together, we create a makeup look that YOU like.

  3. I do not apply a generic makeup look to all clients and create an individual makeup look for each and every client that not onlne flatters your colouring and bone structure but co-ordinates with your planned outfit.

It is important to use the trial to explore ALL your preferred options so that upon completion, you are totally confident in your final choice and finished makeup look. I advise you and suggest products and colour choices etc. based on my experience but ultimately, the decision is yours. If you prefer to leave the entire process up to me however, no problem!
